About us
Smartsite started out creating small websites for South Australian businesses in 1999, and developed our first commercial Java applet in 1998.
As web technology and infrastructure improved, we shifted to content management systems and developed two of our own. In 2004 we offered our first web hosting solutions, and today host around 30 websites.
Later in 2004 we shifted our focus toward online application development, and began offering integrated Open Source products for content management and e-commerce. All our development work is based on open source platforms - Linux / BSD servers running the PHP scripting language and MySQL Databases on top of the Apache web server. This industry standard offers our customers a vast array of license free products, in a continual state of improvement.
Open source expertise
The explosion in open source web-based applications has delivered a myriad of options to users of distributed technology - from seasoned campaigners to newbies. Names you will recognise such as MediaWiki, WordPress, Mambo, and PhPBB are all freely available products - saving you licensing costs, and opening up a vast array of features from contributors all over the world.
Application development
We develop exclusively in PHP and MySQL, and have experience with large scale, high volume applications. Our interface designs complement our intellegent server-side development with Web 2.0 technologies including Javascript, XHTML, CSS and AJAX.
Our focus is on modular design, security, and stability.
